why is my screen black but all the button work fine

i dropped my samsung galaxy s3 yesterday but nothing new cracked ( had a small crack in the corner from dropping it a couple months ago). the screen is black now but all the led lights work, the phone still rings, my alarm goes off, etc,. the touch screen is responsive. but the screen just stays black. Any ideas on how i might fix it. I very good with phones. so i could take it apart and check if necessary.

Welcome to Android Central! This is a relatively common issue. The screen likely got damaged from the fall, or perhaps a connection got jarred loose. There are quite a few YouTube videos showing how to replace a screen, so you could search for "S3 replace screen."
