It sounds as if it's corrupt. Put the card into a USB adapter, plug that into your PC or laptop (directly, not through a USB hub).

PhotoRec, burn it to a disk (CD or DVD) and restart the computer with the disk. Let PhotoRec go to work on the SD card and it'll recover anything left on the card. (It doesn't care about filesystems.)
If the card is totally shot, formatting it might work, but if it's totally shot, whether you can make it work again or not, you've lost everything on it. (Which is why everything you don't want to lose should be backed up to at least 2 independent destinations.)
