Why does the text and picture messaging suck so bad?

It is S...L...O...W!!! Sometimes it just says sending for hours,( the longest was a few weeks and I did not even know it was still sending pictures, I just got responses out of the blue). Sometimes it just won't work at all. Won't open, won't select or do anything. I have whittled down to only essential apps, made no difference. Any tips on how to speed it up?

there maybe a problem with your internet connection, check your wifi settings and speed, cheers
