My phone (rooted 1+1) is on data-only plan (redpocket). I use Hangouts for all phone calls. (my phone app is only for making emergency 911 calls.)

I tried to clear the phone default and disable phone.apk. But nothing worked. Is there any method (rooted or xposed or whatever) to make Hangouts dialer as default?

    update: It's now possible (12/18/2014)

There were many threads on this & related subjects in September when GV and Hangouts merged and Hangouts Dialer was launched. The answer was No, can't do it. Hangouts still isn't a true dialer - it's just a call-using-data app. Even with a Nexus 5, when I click on a number, it offers the phone dialer or Skype, but not Hangouts.

I gave up making Hangouts as the default dialer, which is annoying because I am on data-only plans.

As a compromise, I put my callcentric SIP information in the phone app internet call settings and made it default. The downside is it's not free (2c/m) and the call quality in 3G area.

Is it possible to long press the number, copy and paste into Hangouts dialer?

Yes. But that's how I did with Windows Mobile phones before iPhone was introduced.
