In my free onenote android version, I can only make new notebooks located on my skydrive, and without any Internet connection I can't even make new notebooks.

But I think (or foolish to think) that I have found a work around. Once I have made a notebook in my skydrive, I can edit and work in it normally. Seemingly onenote saves a local copy too. Which I can use even without internet connection. Yes I can't sync it with other devices but to tell u the truth I don't have other devices.

Now is this really safe or I am missing something? Have I fooled the big microsoft corporation or something as simple as an update can erase all the data not yet synced with my skydrive?

The only problem I see is which direction it syncs. If you make a change off line, then get online and sync, will the changed version get uploaded, or will the unchanged version get downloaded? I'd try it first, to be sure.

    You raise a valid point.

I do have a disappointment for phone called lumia 710 with an equally disappointing onenote version preloaded and that happens to be full version according to microsoft sales executive I talked with. Thing is full version doesn't mean full featured and onenote android >>>onenote on windows phone. At present it's battery is dead - so I will have to order a new one to see if I can make offline notebooks on it and test the l claims of the Microsoft salesperson. But even if it turns out to be true I doubt I will be using it at all for any sort of research or note taking ( windows 7 doesn't even have speech to text ). Too bad not single microsoft phone comes with an active stylus, yet they had the audacity to scrap surface mini. But that's a topic for windows central.

Coming back to android - I did get a complimentary one year premium evernote with my note3 neo but I don't think it's no where near to onenote in capabilities when it comes to academics. Have u had any experience with evernote?

WAY back when. Probably about 2011 or so. Installed it, played with it for a few minutes, realized I didn't need it and uninstalled it.

Now I use any text editor with speech to text for taking notes. They're all small and fast. Anything I really need power for I do on my desktop.
