Why will Android not hyperlink phone numbers in doc, pdf, or xls files?

AC Question

My work sends me lists of sites that I have to visit. I have to call the sites prior to my arrival. Lists can be up to 250 sites. I do not want all that in my "Contacts" on my phone.

I currently have iPhone 3GS. An app called "Documents" by SavySoda allows me to open .xls or .doc files and inside those the phone numbers are hyperlinked so that all I have to do is touch the phone number, then a "call" or "cancel" screen pops up, then I just have to touch "call" to call the number.

If you can show me how to do this on a Samsung phone, I would LOVE to get away from Apple. PLEASE HELP ME DO THIS!

I tested a couple apps that I had on my phone, even downloaded Kingsoft Office to see if that would work, and it didn't. I am at a loss for what to suggest.

So . . . it said "answers in 5 mins" . . . . huh, . . . . . it's been 8 hours and still no answer. This forum seems to be useless.
The answers are provided by people like you, who have phones and know something about them. It's not a paid answering service. So you get an answer a) if someone knows the answer and b) when he happens to see your question and happens to have the time (and inclination) to answer it. Complaining about something you're getting for free doesn't make people want to rush out and help you.

As far as your question is concerned, whether a link in a document is active (makes the call) or not depends on the app it's opened in. Ask your question by emailing the developers of the apps you want to use that way - Android has nothing to do with it. (Neither does any operating system. The reason clicking on a link in a web browser opens that web page is because the web browser is doing it. In Microsoft Office, various programs link differently (ctrl-click in Word, click in a properly-formed link in Excel, etc.) Android has the ability to allow a developer to make links in documents in his app hot, it doesn't force the developer to use the ability.

Useful info Rukbat.

I have mentioned (along with many I guess) that I think the phrase "Answered in 5 minutes" should be qualified or amended. It seems cheap marketing, but what do I know.

In related news: - new enquirers are not aware their first question goes through automatic moderation, don't see it straight away, and often post again.
I'm sure most here realise this.
