Why does my phone screen turn on when starting up but stays black after locking?

my phone screen it turns on when started up but stays black after locking

I have an Alcatel one touch fierce two and the screen stays black afteri lock it. Everything work fine and I put my phone to charge over night. This morning I tried to turn it on and it did. Everything works but when I lock my phone, it stay black after that. The only way I get my screen on is taking the battery out and turning it on again. Thank you for any help!

Are you tapping the power button to bring the screen back on?
