Why are my contacts not loading after the lollipop update?

I just recently updated my phone to the lollipop and everything is working fine except my contacts will not load and it just keeps saying updating contact list. I tried restarting, shutting off my phone and removing the battery and nothing has worked. What should I do?

Are you connected to wifi or mobile data? It needs an internet connection to load your contacts. (Assuming they're Google contacts - look in Google Contacts under the Google account in the phone to see what's there.
