Is the Samsung Galaxy S4 the wrong phone for someone new to smartphones?

[AC Question]

I've had mine for a couple of weeks, and am feeling so frustrated with trying to figure it out in general. I have a couple of manuals from the library, but so often they "answer" a question using language I'm not familiar with. This phone can obviously do so much that I can't seem to begin to understand. And some of what it does drives me crazy - like the screen going black a few seconds after I start trying to do something with it. Can you recommend an easier way to get started with this little monster? Or have I made a terrible mistake and should have gone for the iPhone?
