Why does "Get Update" appear rather than my photos when I click on the photos icon?

When I click on the Photos icon, I can't view them. Only the "Get Update" for the new Google Photos option is available. In order to view pictures, I have to go to the camera and find the most recent pic

Because Google wants to take over your phone... and your life! Something like that anyways! I hate Google! They can be so intrusive... as if they have some "right"!

I believe Google photos updated from Google+ or something recently. Perhaps you have your photos synced to Google and they want you to update your Google Photos apps. You might need to go to settings in Playstore and disable automatic updating.
