How do I access the non-touchscreen administration menus on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite?

I broke the screen and would like to back up the data before I replace it. I would prefer not to use Google's cloud or USB; I have a micro SD installed with more than enough room. I know there are two text-only administration menus in Android; I have accessed both on an ASUS tablet before by manipulating the hard buttons. One menu includes a "back up user data" option. I can't remember how I got into it on the ASUS, nor figure out how to access it on the Samsung. It's easy to get to the recovery menu by holding down the power/up-volume/home buttons, but how do I get to that elusive menu that has the backup option?
