    Somehow my background data was turned off and I don't know how to turn it back on. I have used the directions found online, but no success. Please help.

    Hi, welcome to the forums! What device do you have? Try in settings - data usage - three dots top right. You can also switch background data on & off individually if you select any of the apps on that list.
