Why is my sim card not working

[AC Question]

I haven't dropped my phone or anything. But my phone has no service and it says unable to read sim card. If I take the sim card out and put it back in my phone will have service for a few minutes then lose service again. Do I have to buy a new sim card?

"Most" carriers won't charge you for a SIM that failed. Do you have a spare phone you can put the current sim in to see if it replicates the issue? Might be the phone itself.
