Android Auto on a compatible car stereo using an LTE tablet not a phone

there are many compatible aftermarket new head units that play apple carplay and android auto etc etc! I use iPhone for my phone uses but I was thinking about buying a dedicated LTE tablet running android 5.0 or higher hoping that the android plays works on the car stereo!

I would think an Android tablet would work with Android Auto, I don't there is a limitation to just phones as long as the tablet is running the correct version supported by Android Auto.

I just checked, my Samsung Note 10.1 2014 tablet running 5.1.1 is NOT compatible with the Android Auto app. The app says it requires Android 5.0 or higher so it's not the OS. My only other assumption is that it won't work with a tablet.
