Why can't I receive or send text messages?

I noticed that I wasn't getting responses from people I was texting, my texts were sent not delivered. Tried to text myself and didn't recieve it. Hours later I'm just now getting some random texts from the people I was texting earlier, but not even all of ten, none of mine were ever delivered. How do I fix this it's very inconvenient as I need to be in contact with my boss at all times

Can you get calls? If not your sim is suspect. If yes your phone is.
Try to give sim contacts a gentle clean .....
