Device does not recognise SD Memory Card

I have been using Moto X Play for seven months. For about a month the device was not in use and SIM and Memory cards were transferred to another device.

I have now started using the Moto X Play again but I find that the SD memory Card does not show or rather the device does not read it.

Please let me know what could be the problem and how I can resolve the issue.

1. The card could have been reformatted as adoptable storage. You'd have to format it back to FAT32 or exFAT.

2. The card could have gone bad. What you do depends on the card manufacturer. For a SanDisk card, for instance, you go to the live chat at SanDisk microSD Tech Support. For some manufacturers (the cheap ones), you throw the card out and buy a good one.
