stop the motorola g4 plus from automatically killing apps

So while playing through the menus I enabled the phone to kill all background processes upon exiting them. Now when i get a text when using google maps or listening to music it kills the entire program when I go to read it. I lost where this setting is in and feel as if i have gone through every single piece of the menu and still can not find out how to turn this feature back off.

Check in developer options under Applications, there should be a "Do not keep active" or "Limit background processes"
