Why does Gmail take so long to update?

A

AC Question

Brand new Galaxy S7.

Expected behavior: on my previous phone (an old Moto G), Gmail updated almost immediately when I received a new email.

This does not happen on my S7.

I can tell this because on my desktop I am looking at Gmail through Chrome and it will often take 10 minutes between the time a new email shows up there and when it shows up in the Gmail app on the S7.

This happens both on wifi and off of wifi.

So far I haven't noticed any other irregularities. In particular, web browsing is still quite fast even when this behavior is occurring.

Is there a setting in Gmail somewhere that controls how often it checks for new mail? I couldn't find it.

Thanks for the help.
