How can I transfer contacts from old Android phone to new one without using Gmail?

I don't want to "sync" anything. And I don't want "all of my contacts in one place" as Google advertises. I just want them to move from my old phone to my new one.

Your carrier most likely can do this in store, but it would take a little while and more than likely they would transfer them using their own cloud based tool.
If you transferred them to your sim card, there is a limit I believe to how many you can store.

May I ask why not through gmail? It is secure.
