Only 3 reasons I can think that apps wouldn't show after installation. First things first tho, let's insure they are installed. Open Google Now and ask it to open one of the apps. Simply say, "OK Google", "open (insert app name and it must be the actual app name)" and see if it opens it. If it returns a Google search it didn't find the app installed on your device. That could mean there's a problem with the install. If it opens it then the app is on your device and then all we have to do is find it.
Reasons that I can think of that an app wouldn't appear to be on the device: the sort on/in your app drawer, the app was for a widget and not an openable app, the app isn't compatible with your device.
The sort in your app drawer is simple enough. Open your app drawer, and upper left hand corner usually, open the drop down menu and check that you're not sorted by custom. Sort by recent or alphabetical. Recent will put the last installations at the top of the list.
The app was for a widget. Widgets that aren't meant to be opened as apps can only be found in your widget list. The only way I know of to see this is too long press on an empty spot on your home screen and select add apps and widgets, and then to scroll thru the list.
Installation or incompatibility issues. Since it sounds like you didn't get the apps from the Play Store you may have gotten apps that aren't compatible with your device. The Play Store will do a lot of the weeding out for you and typically not show you apps that are incompatible with your device but online app services don't usually care or check. They may even seem to install but incompatible apps lack the required code to run and may not even show up as installed even if no error is displayed. Along with this getting apps from unknown sources also opens users up to nefarious apps that could be ploys to get users to download and then hide themselves working in the background phishing or stealing information, so be warned that not everyone is on the up and up.
