Will reset to factory defaults wipe updated OS

I recently updated my Samsung J5, which came with Android 5.0 installed, to Android 6.0 (via my carrier). If, for some reason, I do a reset to factory defaults will that wipe out my update? I am guessing that the factory ROM was not overwritten with 6.0 so that probably it will return to 5.0. I can always do the upgrade again, if necessary, but would rather not have to do so. And I don't know why I would have to do a factory reset but want to know what happens, just in case.

Thanks, but I am afraid I don't know what FR means (maybe Factory Reset). And YES, I will be careful. Save personal info to SD and NOT erase during reset.
I'm sorry, it does mean that, but I thought that that was what you were talking about, except that you were using a sort of Windows term for it. :)
If you do mean Factory Reset, we have Ambassador Guides, which I might as well link right here:

God forbid that I would use a Windows term. Egads! Haven't used anything but Linux for years. Probably should have used the term "Factory data reset" as that's the way it is identified on the phone.

I once had a problem after an update of the APPS and my connections, when making a voice call, were really bad. I assumed that the update was bad so I did a "Factory data reset" and then phone started working again.

I hope not to have any reason to do the reset again but just wanted to be sure that I would not revert back to the previous OS if I did so.

Thanks for the feedback.
