Can I force android to automatically close an app if another is opened?

A

AC Question

I bought each one of my kids a galaxy tab a for christmas. They are very young and don't understand closing apps. Sometimes they will have every app running at the same time, limiting their battery life and speed. I was hoping to limit the number of apps to one, closing one app as soon as another is opened, is this possible?

Welcome to Android Central! Android doesn't work that way. If you swap from one app to another, the first one gets paused in the background, and doesn't use any significant battery. It may remain in RAM, in case the user switches back soon -- but if the user instead wants to open something else, the system will close the necessary apps out of RAM to make room for the new app to be opened. In general, let the system manage RAM -- 3rd party RAM managers usually cause more problems than they solve.
