The number '1' notification for my text message won't go away

I was deleting my text messaging thread. As it was deleting the person sent me a new text. The new text got deleted with the rest of the thread so now the notification won't go away. I can not click on the text to read it as it was already deleted.

I already tried restarting my phone, cleared data for the messaging app and the badge provider app. Nothing works

Please help! It's driving me crazy!!!

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Go to Settings>Apps, tap Menu>Show System, and look for an app called Badge Provider (or something similar). If you find it, select it and Clear Cache/Data for that.

A more drastic way is to clear the cache/data from the launcher app (i.e., the homescreen interface). The name of the launcher app varies with the device. If you clear its data, it wipes the homescreens clean, so you have to set them back up again -- but it usually clears out those stuck unread count badges.
