Android OS changes

Should Google try to change how they release the new Android OS to something similar to Apple iOS? Wouldn't this bring a more uniformity in experience and security updates? It is a gamble to know when a device will receive an update due to all the coding changes that is involved with each OS variant for each manufacturer. If you don't think this would work, how would you release a new Android OS?
