Why does my screen go black when answering calls or stays black incoming calls

Screen stays black after a call is answered. When someone is calling me I can't see who it is

Do you have a screen protector on your device? Some have missed the cutout for the proximity sensor that turns the screen off when you hold your phone to your face. The screen protector over the sensor tricks the sensor into keeping the screen off.
