Built-in microphone and headset microphone not working

Why is my microphone not working? Other people cannot hear me speaking. I have also tried with my headphones plugged in, so it's not a problem with the built-in mic. Seems to be a software setting. I also rebooted the phone. Still the same problem.

Problem was that I had put myself on mute during the last phone call (a conference call). The phone seems to have kept itself on mute, even through 2 reboots. I had to make a phone call, put myself on mute and unmute myself, and then the mic worked.
