Downloads folder not updating

Hi,

I've connected a Moto G3 to a pc to add and delete some files in the "Downloads" folder (/storage/sdcard0/Download/ directory), also accessed from the "Downloads" icon on the home screen.

The additions and deletions are recognised when I look at /storage/sdcard0/Download/ with ES File Explorer. But they are not recognised when I open the "Downloads" icon on the home screen.

Is there any way to force the "Downloads" app to recognise the changed contents of the folder and update its index?
