use of ordinary wired headphone disturbs the mic in the phone

I have a wired headphone which I use for TV, as I am moderately hearing impaired. I tried to use this headphone for my mobile phone. when I insert the headphone jack of the wired headphone (which naturally does not have a mic) to my mobile phone (strictly my phone is not android but Nokia asha 210). I thought I can use headphone to hear the received talk loudly and I can use the mic in the mobile phone to talk.Let me make it clear what I do is only for TALK and not for music. when I connect I am able to hear the received voice loudly though there is some distortion in the voice. But the worst part is that the party in the other end is not able to hear me clearly. He complained that my voice is very low. I guess perhaps inserting male plug of the wired headphone some how disturbs the mic in the mobile phone. It is not clear where the mic is located in the Nokia phone. Will somebody educate me?
