I'm moving from a Samsung Note3/ATT to a Pixel XL/Verizon. What's a good app to back up from one to the other?

It depends on what you want to backup and restore. Ideally, you should take advantage of Google services as much as possible, so that the data is automatically synced to the new phone (or at least is easily accessible in the cloud). This would include:

    1. Making sure your contacts and calendar events are all saved to your Google account, not the local Phone account or Samsung account.
    2. Backing up your photos and videos to your Google Photos in the cloud: https://support.google.com/photos/an...DAndroid&hl=en
    3. Uploading local documents and other files to your Google Drive.

Helium can be used to backup and restore 3rd party app data. For SMS, use an app like SMS Backup & Restore.

Be aware that data on Samsung-specific apps (like S Note/S Memo) can not be restored to a non-Samsung phone, since those apps aren't compatible. So if you have a lot of S Memos, you may want to transcribe them into Google Keep.
