Is using the Android App for navigation in a 2017 Ford Fusion a drain on my data plan?

I would like to skip buying the factory installed Navigation system on my new car and use my phone, but concerned about data usage. Thx

To minimize usage, Google maps allows you to download maps for offline while on WiFi. Zooming all the way out, i was able to cover the state of Wisconsin. I suppose if you have a long trip you could download lots of areas. I'm 99% sure the GPS uses no data, as old school GPS systems had no data connection.
