Nougate update no email notifications

[Android Central Question]

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab A5 and prior to updating to 7.0 nougat I would receive email notifications on the notification bar. now after updating I still receive other notifications from Instagram Snapchat etcel. but no email notifications anymore, I have to go to the Gmail app and open it and refresh in order to see my new emails. Has this happened to anyone else any ideas how to fix this please help!

Welcome to Android Central! When you open the Gmail app, are the new emails there automatically, or do you have to manually refresh it? If the latter, then make sure your Auto-Sync is turned on (in the swipedown Quick Settings toggle menu).

Go to Settings>Accounts-Google, and make sure Gmail's sync is turned on.

B.Diddy-- yes in both my accounts setting under Google in my toggle bar everywhere I can look everything is turned on and synced however I still need to manually go into my Gmail app and refresh to see any new emails

Thanks for registering! Go to Settings>Data Usage, and make sure Restrict Background Data isn't turned on.

b.diddy -- everything is synced there as well with the background data active. This is just crazy isn't it? Have you got any other possible solutions? I appreciate your help with this

Ok, go to the Power or Battery menu, and look for a Battery Optimization setting. Make sure Gmail is not optimized.

Also, if any general power-saving modes are turned on, turn them off.
