Windows can't find my Nexus 6P photos

[Android Central Question]

Connected the phone using a USB to Type C cable
Opened windows file explorer
found the phone under "This Laptop" no files were in the phone directory

Welcome to Android Central! Is the phone screen on and unlocked? If the phone isn't unlocked, the computer can't access the data.

If it's unlocked, then swipe down the notification panel and tap the USB icon. Make sure MTP is selected, not Charge Only.
