Can information be retrieved from a damaged Galaxy S6?

The top part of the handset was squashed. The phone wouldn't switch off. There is a lot of info on the phone i.e. eWallet password keeper. Is there a way that the info could be retrieved from the phone?

You should have been backing up regularly even before the accident occured. I imagine based on your description that the motherboard could have been damaged, which means all info is lost.
