when I click on location for a contact, why does uber open up instead of google maps?

Welcome to Android Central! Go to the App Manager, select Uber, then Defaults, and Clear Defaults. Now see if the problem persists.

And if you're given the choice, use Maps and tap Always (unless you want to be asked every time).
