Google Play Store won't quit trying to update apps

I have a Samsung galaxy j1 Verizon with Android 5.1.1. I have turned off auto updates in the play store app as well as turning off updates for individual apps. It keeps notifying me that it can't update apps because of low space. Please do not advise me to update my phone or android, I'm asking this question because l want to avoid updating.

How much total storage does your device have?

I have the same problem.

Storage space isn't the issue.

The issue is google play trying to update apps even though auto update is turned off.
