How do I stop Messenger from sending messages on Messenger and also as a text and vice versa?

Whenever I send a text or a Messenger message on only one application both will send/receive it. This eats into text charges . I wanted to use Messenger to send messages and NOT have it charged against texting on my phone.

Which messenger app(s) are you talking about - Android Messenger, Facebook Messenger, something else?

Android Messenger sends messages over your carrier's network and that cuts into your plan's texting allotment. There's no way around that, unless your carrier offers an exemption for messages sent while using WiFi calling (mine does not - they would count against my allotment, but I have unlimited SMS/MMS on my account now).
