Pixel 2 XL Screen "press and hold" responsiveness for SWGOH

Just bought a new Pixel 2 XL and have an issue with screen responsiveness on bottom corner edges. Star wars galaxy of heroes requires a press and hold (as opposed to a single tap) on the corner edge of screen to enable the ability description pop up box, right now, the tap works ok (still abit dodgy) but it does now allow me to hold at all. Works ok when phone is flipped (top edge working fine) but is this a software or a hardware issue? i.e. do i return the phone if its a hardware problem. Already tried all the proposed troubleshooting e.g. font size, edge responsiveness, etc
