Why is my headphone jack playing audio so oddly?

Android Central Question

I've had my Galaxy Note8 for about half a year and up until recently, the headphone jack has worked fine with all earbuds, headphones and speakers. About a week ago, all audio from the aux output sounded fuzzy and distorted, and audio that would normally be in the background, such as an instrumental in a song, is extremely loud and in the foreground, with any and all human speech virtually unbearable. I've tested MANY different sets of earbuds and headphones, as well as speakers, and they all sound this way. Can I fix this on my own, or should I just get it repaired?

Check the jack port for lint preferably with a plasitc toothpick but if you're careful a paperclip will work too. If that doesn't work perform a factory reset after backing up your files. I had an audio issue where one channel had bad sound and it worked for me on an LG phone. If that doesn't work you might need a repair.
