Bluetooth and text msgs

We have a 2013 Malibu and have bluetooth set up fine ... but, can't get the text msg thing to work. It worked fine on our previous vehicle, a 2015 Equinox. Any ideas?

Did you make sure you accepted the prompt when the car asked for permission to access contacts/messages on the phone? Have you tried removing the phone from the car (and forgetting the car on your phone) and re-pairing the two?
