When will someone provide a working "open-source" alternative to the Android OS?

Android Central Question

I am sick and tired of the Android OS.

So much for it claiming to be an 'open source' OS.

I do Not want forced updates.

I Do want to be able to access and control ALL functions of my phone.

It seems the Android OS is systematically taking control of my phone, while systematically locking me out of control.

NO Thank You Android. NO Thank you Google.

Hopefully, other programmers will offer a true 'open source' alternative while taking a large byte out of your business.

Got the message?

You wish may to report your concerns to Google, with whom Android Central has no affiliation.

AOSP is, as the name says, open source. If you start with the AOSP, and write your own hardware interface, you can add access to anything in he phone you like. But no open source OS is going to come ready-made for closed source hardware. It's just the OS, not the BIOS (or HAL or whatever you prefer to call it).

And if you root the phone you can turn off the update app (Which prevents you from receiving security patches - an update is an update.) You can also install a terminal app to get to Linux.
