Storage problems despite having space

[Android Central Question]

Hello, I am beyond frustrated! I have 8.5GB left on my phone but it keeps,showing I've used up 15.6GB. I have done the check, I tried to download My Files as soneone suggested but I can't even do THAT because,my stupid phone keeps saying I have np space. I have some videos from a concert and about 100 pics/screenshots...that's it so I don't understand. Here is a screen shot of my storage. What is going on??? Hmm...doesnt seem I can put a screenshot. Well, no documents, 6GB videos, 1.4 in apps and a little in pictures (MGs worth).

Looking at the space from an app doesn't show you the entire story. Install a terminal app, like Terminal Emulator for Android. Type

du

(disk usage) and hit Enter. You'll see a list of partitions - the last one should be userdata (or something similar). That's how much space you have for installing apps and for data. The rest of the space is being used by those other partitions - recovery, bootloader, permanent system data, system, etc.
