How can a rear camera with black screen be fixed?

I have the Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I1900. My front camera works without any difficulty. However, when the rear camera is selected, the screen goes full black. Any ideas on how to fix it? I have performed a hard reset and subsequently tried the rear camera; however, that did not help. Also, if the camera software starts out with the rear one, it take a long time to switch to the front one. Sometimes it does not switch at all. It shows an error (Warning: Unknown error occured) to which I tap "OK" and then the camera program closes.

The camera module may need replacing, or other repair needed.

Welcome to Android Central! That's an ancient phone, so I wouldn't be surprised if components started failing. But see if the problem also happens in Safe Mode: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-11423

I downloaded a camera app called open camera.it fixed my problem.hope this helps.
