In dire need of help

I bought a lgk4 off a site i was assured it was unlocked but isnt.it keeps asking me for a passcode and also the carrier is unknown it never came with a sim card so im at a loss as to how to unlock it to any carrier

You're confusing 2 terms here. The phone may well work on most carriers without doing anything (SIM unlocked). However, it sounds like the phone was not properly reset before it was sold to you, you will now have to contend with factory reset protection, which we won't help bypass.
