Android Central Question

Hi, I have noticed a file in my internal storage called ".sems"
Click on it and it comes up with a file called

It reappears after I delete it, doese anyone know what it is please, hardly any information on Google, thanks

C

Welcome to Android Central! A png file is an image file. What does the image show?

A period in front of a filename means it's intended to be a hidden file. This doesn't mean it's malware, since many system files and folders have a leading period, to prevent the user from accidentally modifying or deleting them.

Hi B. Diddy, many thanks for your reply. I am C, I have just signed up.

Here's the image

Ok, and I'm assuming ".sems" is a folder, not a file, correct? It sounds like it's related to some kind of chat or social media app. Which ones do you have installed on your phone?

I would be very grateful for any reason why I cannot delete this rubbish

sa_groups_img_family_grid

The icon shows it self as two figures- man & woman.

Welcome to Android Central.

What phone do you have? Where do you see this? Is it in a specific app?

Re: I would be very grateful for any reason why I cannot delete this rubbish

Welcome to Android Central! I've seen this mentioned several times before. It's most likely an image that's utilized by some app. What's the name of the directory it's in? FYI, just because you can't identify what a file is for doesn't automatically make it rubbish -- this line of thinking can be a bit risky, since it leads people to delete files or folders that end up being important for the correct function of other apps.

Re: I would be very grateful for any reason why I cannot delete this rubbish

It is in Files storage.
I have a Samsung S8.

Each time i delete it,
It simply reappears.

Re: I would be very grateful for any reason why I cannot delete this rubbish

"Files" doesn't sound like the actual directory -- you may just be referring to the file manager app called "Files" or "My Files." Using the file manager, select that file, then tap Menu, then Info or Details -- that should give you the actual directory the file is saved to.

If it keeps reappearing, that suggests the app that's responsible keeps regenerating it or caching it.

I have the same issue on my Galaxy S8. Here's the log info my phone is definitely hacked

The only "hacking" I can see in that log is that some process in base.apk can't run - because the phone's not rooted. That's not hacking, unless it's a virus. But since the phone's not rooted, it can't run, so at worst it would be some sort of lame attempt at hacking ... that failed.

Am I missing some line in there that indicates hacking?
