Why do I get separate folders folders with one gray cartoon GIF of a cat?

Every once in a while, I have no clue how, but I open up my gallery And there are 70 separate folders with a cartoon cat in each folder. Not always just the gray cartoon cat either. There are other GIFs and none are any that I created. Why? And how do I make it stop!?

Welcome to Android Central! They're probably stickers from Facebook Messenger. There are quite a few threads about this. You need to find the directory those images are saved to, and use a file manager app to create a .nomedia file in the directory. Or uninstall FB Messenger, because they don't quite seem to understand how to properly code an app for Android devices.
