Android Central Question

Could it be that the phones are hacked and someone in another country signed on to our phones ?

If it's a one hour change, and you're near a timezone border, you could be switching between a tower in one zone and a tower in the other zone. (The time, if it's set to automatic, is the time at the tower [the date and timezone too].)

If not, the most likely explanation is corrupt firmware. Hacking comes a very distant - about 25th place on the list of things it could be. Why would anyone hack your phone to change the timezone?

I have the same problem and I understand that it happens because I live right on the border of two different time zones. But how do I bloody stop this stupid phone from hopping between time zones? If I manually change to a fixed network then the phone doesn't work half of the time. It sometimes does so while lying on the bedside table in the middle of the night and then my alarm clock goes off an hour late which causes mighty problems....

Welcome to Android Central! That certainly sounds frustrating. Which phone do you have, and who's your carrier? I'd start with contacting your carrier's support team -- I would guess that they've had to field this question before, so maybe they have a solution.

Go to settings->system->date & time and turn off network provided time and network provided time zone. That sets it to manual mode. If time is correct.then leave it as it is. If time or time zone is wrong then click them and manually change them.

I think OP was saying that if they do that, it can cause intermittent problems (presumably if the phone's date/time doesn't match up exactly with whatever the network thinks it is).
