Today I was removing a case from my Note 9 (nothing overly tight) and suddenly heard a cracking noise, like something snapping. I looked over the phone and no glass seemed to be broken front or back, and it works fine, but the crack sound really made me nervous. Is it possible an internal component or something could've snapped from the moderate pressure it took to remove the case? I know this is an odd question, and it's probably nothing, but the noise I heard was unsettling.

Welcome to Android Central! The first place I would look would be the case itself. If it's a relatively stiff or sturdy case, perhaps you broke some part of the case. I've had one or two cases that are so stiff, I was afraid I'd rip the whole thing apart in the process of taking it off!
