Why, Pie? Why?

Android Central Question

I have made many mistakes in my life. Installing Pie isn't the biggest or worst. But I feel violated.

Replying to my own question, calling it a thread.
My Galaxy S8+ was 2+ years old and it occurred to me how strong and modern it still was. I had it dialed in the way I wanted it. My battery could still get me through most work days, and I am a heavy user.
I don't recall how I was notified of the Pie. I do recall it wasn't a critical, security related, do or die thing. I remember feeling like, if it's free, and it's gonna make my best phone ever even better, and it's here now and... No brainer!

I continue on. I'll not try to cover every way Pie has frustrated or infuriated me, in one post. No, I'll describe one single violation per post from here on.
The outrage I'll share here is this: my battery went from 9 to 10 hours of heavy use before needing a charge, to 3 to 5 hours of energy leaking, stress inducing, fake battery failing bull**** failure IMMEDIATELY after Pie installation. This huge decrease in performance is so obviously tied to Pie, it would be a slam dunk court case, guilty of the charge attempted murder. From not concerned about having a charge cord with me to buying extras to keep in various locations.
From hardly ever checking my charge level to amazement that I'm down to 30% before lunch. Battery wrecked.
Battery. Pie vs Battery. Daily rage.

Aw, all you nice folks chiming in, thank you. Thank you all.
Now, complaintoutragewtfhowcouldtheywhydidthey #2 : extra frickin clicks for EVERYTHING
Example: saving contact. Call a number for the first time, call ends, click Add to contacts, then click ok to the question add Xxx-xxxx to contacts? THEN click create new contact, just to get to the new contact page. THEN have to click in the name space just to put the cursor there (or whatever the hell it's called, by then I'm thinking, who came up with this and said, "Perfect!"
I'm not listing in any order. Just whichever lame *** "new feature" comes to mind at the moment.

Ah. The Adaptive Battery struggle. Google decided it was going to use AI to save battery. What they forgot to mention was that it would absolutely wreck your battery patterns for a couple of weeks before it starts getting better.
Now, the adaptive battery does make it save more power, but you'll have to go through 2-3 weeks of fast dying battery. You can turn off adaptive battery though if you want. Settings>Device Care>Battery>3 dots>Settings>Adaptive Battery.

Lame *** feature that steams my ears #3 : Pie has erased any trace of me in my phone's history.
My phone does not know me anymore. My phone has forgotten everything it learned about me, it's owner and sole user. My phone was in an accident, went into a coma for a day, and woke up with 100% amnesia. Oh, and it isn't picking up on who I am, what I'm likely to select, who I'm likely typing in to a contact search, none of it. It not only doesn't know me, it's as dumb as DOSS. Pretty face, air brain. Knows its alphabet. Couldn't walk it's way out of a tablecloth.

Oh, you're the guy who said likes Samsung's version of pie ... You come off as a smug software designer for Google
You do realize, don't you, that Samsung and Google aren't even related, let alone being the same company? And that, as Chanchan said, your carrier also modifies the version of Android you get?

Aside from Chanchan being a decent human, if you, the op, had any search capability you would realize that your first step after these os update post - glitch problems is to clear your cache partition and reboot.

As far as adding a contact, that is how you set up a new contact, as you can see. What could be changed? You want the cursor in a particular field automatically? Maybe not everyone uses that field, hence the need to select.

As to smug sitting with a laptop and a cat, that's probably projection (it's you in other words). This thread should be nuked.

Aah, of course you check to see if I'm talking out my butt! The old " you do know Google and Samsung aren't even..." My phone is Samsung. Google made the OS then ruined it. Oh and AT&T takes what's bad and worsens it. Check, check, and check. Leave my qualifications or lack of out of it.

The rest of the comments, you all seem to think it's ok to have to re reconfigure, clear cache, all the other suggestions I've read the past few months.
I'm a layperson. I did take make opportunities to tweak my phone, my pre-pie phone, to get it to where it was, which is that place called HOW I LIKE IT.
There is plenty of outrage besides mine.
I've got off subject. This was going to be a daily thing where I cite another example of the brick my phone has become thanks to Pie. I have yet to decide WHO to blame, besides myself, for this degradation. But it wouldn't have happened without Pie. Ok? Moving on.

If you're that dissatisfied, you should really factory reset. You'll get a smoother/more polished experience, most likely at least. Starting from scratch often helps when I'm experiencing issues. I know it sucks having to do these things, but the technology isn't quite there yet. I've even heard tech journalist complain about this. Also, you'll get booted for your behavior if you keep posting like this. It's hostile. Sorry about your experience.

INCLUDING the look of Pie. Soon as it hit the streets, I saw, and had to agree with many comments about the look, with commonalities being "cartoonish" and "if I wanted my phone to look like an iPhone I would have bought an iPhone".
I can hear the "you can get themes" coming already.
But again, they took something not broken, and "improved" it, which we all know, but only some will say out loud, was to force hardware replacement.
What a sham and a shame.

Ok for Sunday's debacle, a small one. I don't see how it's an improvement, and I figured it out on the fly, while working, and it only cost me a few minutes of confusion, thinking "wait, did I pick up someone else's phone?"
Ok so, when I go to copy a web address, I now get a drop down with the share, edit, and some other button. No longer is it copy and paste.
But that change ****s up my method. If I've already started a message and want to paste into it, no, I can't. I SHARE the address, meaning, start a new message.
Again, it was fine before, and I could add by pasting into any part of my message.
Now it's start my message via share button, which includes typing in the first letters of the contact I'm sharing with, which demonstrates for me again that my phone has forgotten who I am, as it will display all 10 Daniels with last name alphabetically, not by who I message most often (a real blood boiler that one) and in a most cluttered, list invisible pile of **** way, until I lose the keyboard, THEN I can scroll to the correct contact, and SHARE the address, and ADD a message if I want to. What a crocodile of snot change to something that needed no changing.
Come on advanced users! Tell me how that is a much more peaceful and amazing and efficient and pleasing and mind blowing way of communicating!

It sounds like you want an iPhone. I didn't handle an iPhone since the iPhone 4 until my wife got the iPhone 8 as a work phone. I was surprised how much hasn't changed.

Android is in constant flux. Always changing. And there's different interpretations of Android via MANY manufacturers.

Again, sorry about your experience. Dumping the thread.
