Android Central Question

I have a samsung j7 and this problem has been going on for a while. I edit videos and the things i download I need for my videos. Anyways, when I try to download something from google, it doesn't go to its downloads folder. The same with other apps I use. I save my work but it doesn't go to its file. Its been very frustrating, I tried look for solutions but nothing is working. Please help and Thank you.

Welcome to Android Central! Are you using the Google search app to download items from the web? If so, go to Settings>Apps, select the Google app, then Permissions, and make sure it has Storage permission turned on. Now downloaded files from the Google app should go to the /Download directory. (If you don't have Storage permission turned on, downloaded files go to a protected system directory called /document. Don't ask me why Google made this the default setting.)

When I download/save stuff it doesnt go to its file

Ok, so this has been going on for awhile and its frustrating. When I go on google to download pictures it doesn't show up in its file, in the 'My Files' app. This was quite strange because this never happened before. I thought this was a minor problem but it's been a month and I still can't seem to find a solution. So that's why I'm here asling for help. Please and Thank you.

Re: When I download/save stuff it doesnt go to its file

It's been a long time since I've heard about the My Files app. What device do you have and what version of Android are you on?

It's my understanding that you have to give Google Assistant express permission to save items to your device or items downloaded go to a folder that you cannot access. So if you are using the Google search box, not Chrome or another browser you're logged into, to find and then download images it's not going to be anywhere viewable unless you've given this permission to Google Assistant.

To give permission or check if Google Assistant has permission to save items to your device go to; Settings>Applications & permissions, locate the app page (you may have to enable "show system apps") and in the permissions make sure Storage is one of the permissions granted.
