Screen brightness changes. Why?

Is there anything I can do to stop my screen from getting darker then back to normal brightness?? The problem makes it nearly impossible to differentiate between two similar colors..

Welcome to Android Central! Does this also happen if you turn off Adaptive Brightness?

Is there anything blocking the ambient light sensor (right by the front-facing camera)?
